It was a pleasure to spend time in Valencia. The Oceangraphic was a fantastic experience. It was my second time here, but for sure, I will visit again whenever I will be in Valencia.

The park is really well maintained. It’s wheelchair and stroller accessible, interactive, and kid-friendly. I recommend setting aside at least 3–4 hours so you can spend enough time in each area. Personally, I loved the Arctic, Antarctic, and tropical sections. I’d love to go back!!

Grateful for the inspiring Biopark project — a true harmony of nature, education, and ecology. Every detail reflects teamwork across science, construction, and community. Congratulations to all who made it possible!

It doesn't feel like a zoo at all. It's more like a park where you can see animals in a natural, animal-friendly environment. A real safari experience. Plenty of facilities. Very affordable. Had a lovely afternoon. Highly recommended.

I had some trouble printing my tickets, but the customer service representative patiently and professionally guided me through the process to resolve my issue. I never imagined such efficiency! It was a truly interesting experience at Città della Scienza, made even more enjoyable by the fact that I didn’t have to wait in line at the ticket office.

It was a great idea for a visit to the Science Museum on a rainy and gloomy day. The museum's program certainly provides plenty of attractions on such days. Of course, the choice of attractions depends on the age of the child and their circle of interests. We spent a lot of time on a playground imitating the construction of a house.

Top things to do in Valencia

Quick overview

  • Access: Included in the open City of Arts and Sciences grounds
  • Separate ticket: Not required for daytime access
  • When you’ll see it: At the start of your visit, or between venues along the complex’s main outdoor axis
  • Visit duration: 20–30 min self-guided
  • Best time: Late afternoon to sunset on a weekday for softer light, lower heat, and cleaner reflections
  • Restrictions: Daytime access is separate from nighttime venue entry; Mya nightclub below uses its own admission and event rules

L’Umbracle is included with access to the open City of Arts and Sciences grounds, and no separate daytime ticket is needed. You’ll usually see it at the start of your visit or between venues, since this open-air promenade links the complex’s main buildings. Pair it with a Combo: Oceanogràfic + Science Museum + Hemisfèric Tickets if you want a half-day plan around the wider complex.

How to best experience Umbracle

Best time to visit

Late afternoon, roughly the final 2 hours before sunset, gives you softer light, better reflections, and less heat on the white surfaces. Midday flattens the architecture and makes the walk feel exposed. If photos matter, don’t choose the hottest part of the day.

How long to spend

Plan 20–30 minutes for a straightforward walk, or about 45 minutes if you’ll stop for photos, sculpture details, and skyline views. The value is in pausing, not rushing through. If you keep moving, it feels like a corridor instead of a lookout.

Where it fits in your itinerary

Use Umbracle before your first indoor venue or between visits to Hemisfèric, Oceanogràfic, and the Science Museum. It works best as a reset point with air, light, and wide views. Don’t leave it for last, when you’re already tired.

Crowd patterns

Foot traffic is usually manageable by day, but the best photo points get busier toward sunset and on weekends. Saturday evenings are the most congested. If you want open sightlines over the pools and buildings, go on a weekday instead.

What to prioritize if time is short

Walk to the midpoint first, where the alignment over Hemisfèric, the water, and the Science Museum reads most clearly. Then look back through the arches before turning around. If time is tight, skip the full-length walk and focus on that central viewpoint.

Common mistakes to avoid

Most visitors treat Umbracle as a passageway and never stop long enough to look back across the complex. Another common mistake is underestimating the sun exposure. Pause halfway, carry water, and use the arches as framing rather than background only.

Best tickets to experience Umbracle

Ticket typeWhy choose it

Combo: Oceanogràfic + Science Museum + Hemisfèric Tickets

Best if you want Umbracle to anchor a full half-day across the complex’s three strongest indoor venues.

Combo: Oceanogràfic + Science Museum Tickets

Strong family choice if you want a sunset Umbracle walk around Valencia’s aquarium-and-museum pairing.

Hemisfèric Tickets

Ideal for shorter visits: Umbracle for architecture and photos, then a fixed-time indoor film experience.

Why it’s worth seeing

Most visitors photograph the City of Arts and Sciences from ground level and miss that Umbracle gives the clearest elevated read of the whole composition. Its ribbed arches are not decorative only; they frame Hemisfèric, the pools, and the long lines of the Science Museum in one sweep. Follow the route below in order, and the space starts to feel intentional rather than just transitional.

South approach: the first full view

As you enter, stop before moving too fast under the arches. This is where Hemisfèric’s eye-shaped form reads most clearly against the water. The promenade’s repeating white ribs start to compress the view, so this first pause helps you understand how Calatrava staged the complex.

Midway planting beds and sculpture zone

The middle stretch shifts from pure viewpoint to garden promenade. Look sideways here, not just ahead: the palms, Mediterranean planting, and sculpture pieces soften the hard white architecture. This is also the best place to notice that Umbracle works as both shade structure and outdoor gallery.

North end toward the museum axis

At the far end, turn back rather than only looking forward. From here, the length of the promenade becomes the subject, with the arches pulling your eye toward the museum and bridges beyond. If the light is low, this is the cleanest point for layered architectural photos.

Stretching roughly 320 meters, Umbracle was designed by Santiago Calatrava as the landscaped viewing spine of the City of Arts and Sciences rather than a standalone garden. What began as a shaded promenade above the parking structure became one of the complex’s clearest architectural lookout points, and it still serves that role today, with sculpture displays by day and separate nightlife activity below after dark.
